THE DRAKE HOTEL OVERVIEW

The Drake Hotel is one of the largest venues in Toronto considering that is comprised of three floors. The first floor contains a dance floor with a bar, there is an elevated sections with dining tables, however there are no bottle booths at the drake. The basement of the Drake, titled the ‘Underground’ lives up to its name as it is more dimly lit and is comprised of a large dance floor, with a bar at the front. The upstairs of the drake is more of a bar and patio. THere is a large square bar in the middle of the room, with access to the Drake’s large patio on the right.

THE DRAKE HOTEL CLUB REVIEW

The Drake Hotel is a staple of Queen Street West. Probably the most prominent venue on Queen Street, the Drake draws a diverse crowd of people from all around Toronto, and the GTA, ranging in ethnicity and ages. The hipster vibe of Queen Street West definitely rubs off on the Drake as the Hotel itself is has a very modern, artistic, youthful, trendy vibe and this correlates to its bar/club aspect at night. As there is no dress code people dress as they feel, or how they want to express themself. Having three floors gives a good mix of different music and crowds. With the diverse mix the Drake has to offer with a spacious layout and good music, it is no question to why it remains a hotspot on Queen Street.

PROS

• Multiple floors and multiple sounds
• Large spacious venue
• Only rooftop patio environment on Queen St.

CONS

• Very long lines in summer after 12:30
• Crowd generally moves room to room, so both rooms are not always high energy, one is usually low and one is high

INSIDER TIPS

• Arrive before 12 to avoid lines
• Stamped re-entry is permitted

THE DRAKE HOTEL GENERAL INFORMATION

The capacity of the Drake Hotel is approximately 450-500 people, but even with this high capacity the venue still gets quite busy on some nights so be sure to arrive early otherwise you’ll be stuck outside in the line for a long time.

Coat check is available in the basement for $4-5 during the colder seasons. Drink prices start around $6+ for mixed drinks, $7+ for beer and somewhere between $8-10 for shots.

Drake Hotel features 3 floors — the main floor, the Drake Underground (basement), and the upstairs bar/rooftop patio area. Each floor has it’s own dedicated bar, and there are several sit down booths where you can sit and enjoy drinks with friends. The downstairs area features it’s own vibe and different music while the main and top floors share the same vibe and mix of music. Each floor has it’s own dance floor area except for the top floor. Finally, washrooms are located in the basement before entering the Drake Underground, as well as a set of washrooms on the top floor to the right when walking up the stairs.

Drake Hotel is typically open in the evening as a restaurant but then converts into a club/bar venue at around 10:00PM. You can arrive anytime before this or after this time but we suggest getting there for no later than 11:00PM otherwise you may be met with long wait times to get inside.

THE DRAKE HOTEL LOCATION

Located on Queen Street West, The Drake Hotel is located on Queen Street West and Ossington (closest major intersection), it is in the heart of the Queen St area. The Drake Hotel is prominent in the Queen St area, as its signage is quite visible as well as having a Drake general store across the street.

THE DRAKE UNDERGROUND AGE LIMIT

You must be 19+ to enter the Drake on a normal club night, no exceptions are made.

THE DRAKE HOTEL DRESS CODE

There is no major dress code at the Drake Hotel, as generally, anything goes, but exceptions can be made as the venue does not like men in sportswear (tracksuits). Caps, hats, jeans and sneakers are all acceptable. The crowd is generally fashion-forward with that Queen Street stylish flare, so try to dress up a little, but you can keep it streetwear.

MUSIC AT THE DRAKE

At The Drake, expect the music to be mainly hip hop and rap with some old school mixes and R&B mixes in between. The underground plays more hip hop, rap and trap with a mix of dancehall occasionally. The music at the Drake Underground may change depending on special events.

THE BAR AT THE DRAKE

There are 4 bars at The Drake, one main bar on the main floor, one bar upstairs on the patio and two bars in the basement. Expect drinks at the bar to start somewhere around $7-10 for a drink, as most the drinks are specialty cocktails and craft beers.

THE DRAKE BOOTH AND BOTTLE SERVICE

Booth and bottle packages are only available at the Drake if you book a private room, otherwise, it is generally an equal setting of buying drinks at the bar.

THE DRAKE AFTERPARTY

The Drake closes around 3:00 am / 3:30 am, however, there are a variety of food spots on Queen people usually go to after, and a small handful of hidden late-night after hour spots you can find by following the crowd after the venue closes.
