Our Review:

The Black Sheep offers a hip casual rooftop patio experience, unique to Liberty Village. Just blocks away from the Fashion District/Club District, this is a perfect relaxed casual spot for drinks and food. The Black Sheep is a unique experience from that of its Sister location Brazen Head located on the ground floor. We found The Black Sheep a bit more hip and modern based on decor and ambiance. A perfect evening/night location, with its decorative lighting and rooftop view, it’s a hidden gem of a rooftop patio experience in Liberty Village/the Fashion District.

Established in 2020, this new venue is modern and fresh, offering some of the best tasting hand crafted cocktails running from ‘The Jail Bird’ a rum based pineapple drink that gives off vacation vibes each sip, and the ‘Freespirit’ a purple gin based drink that was sweet and sour, ‘The Optimist’ a strawberry Aperol Prosecco drink for those looking for something sweet,  and ‘The Peeler’ a sourish vodka based drink that was extremely refreshing.

Our In-Depth Review:

Black Sheep was a pleasant surprise to us and overall a fantastic rooftop patio experience in the heart of Liberty Village with a nice range of classy and funny cocktail drinks, and a great sample of the dishes they had to offer.

With a nice view of Liberty Village’s small commercial area of local restaurants from above, this casual yet somewhat classy spot had a young and hip vibe. The patio also featured outdoor decorative lighting that gave it a nice chill and relaxing ambiance.

To start we enjoyed the Free Spirit, a cocktail with Empress Gin 1908, Lemon Juice and Simple Syrup, which was a sweet drink that had a nice foamy head with a slice of lemon rind on the rim to finish it.

We also had The Jail Bird, made with Havana Club Rum, Pineapple Juice, Fresh Pressed Lime Juice, Honey, Apricot Jam, and Chili Flakes Mixed. This drink in particular was probably the funniest drink we’ve come across in our experience reviewing restaurants and bars as it had a hilarious card attached with pictures of Nick Carter’s mug shots and their respective dates on the back.

For those of you who are into cucumber water, The Peeler is the cocktail for you. This refreshing cocktail is made with Ciroc Pineapple Vodka, Fresh Pressed Lemon Juice, Cucumber & Basil Cordial, and Citrus Cayenne Kombucha. Between this cocktail and The Jailbird, both are neck and neck as our favourites of the night.

The last cocktail we enjoyed was the Smarty Pants which is a fruity and sweet cocktail made with Bulliet Bourbon, Fresh Lemon, Blueberry Simple Syrup, and Fever Tree Ginger Beer. This is a solid cocktail for those who have more of a sweet tooth with a bit of sour to balance it off.

Moving onto appetizers we were served the prosciutto & melon which was served with spiced marcona almonds, fig honey, and green tomato salsa that was reminiscent of a fresh relish. This was overall a quality app that had fresh melon and a nice cut of prosciutto you’d expect in a dish like this.

Next, we enjoyed the Calamari which was light and crispy with a turmeric breading, picked green tomato, spicy caper Marie Rosé sauce, and scallions. This calamari was perfectly cooked and the breading really made it. Overall a great calamari dish.

Finally for appetizers we enjoyed the Black Sheep Ghanoush which is a modern take on a baba ghanoush with roasted garlic & eggplant, pomegranate seeds, crispy shallots, chili oil, cilantro, and served with a sumac salted pita. This isn’t a traditional tasting baba ghanoush, but we still really enjoyed it and think that it’s a great dish that would be appealing to a wider range of palettes.

Onto the mains started off with the Conor McGregor pizza which is topped with a spicy soppressata, fresh garlic, goat cheese, mozzarella, Calabrian chili, organic honey, and sea salt. This pizza overall had a great dough, good sauce, and the toppings were well selected and put together. This is a must try for meaty pizza lovers.

Finally we enjoyed Oysters on the Half Shell which were noticibly fresh and delicious. These aren’t your average $1 oysters, and the three sauces on the side (horseradish, cocktail sauce, and mignonette) were fantastic too.

Overall we really enjoyed the food here, as the quality was quite good, but the thing that stood out to us most was the cocktails which we think are great value for really well mixed and thought out drinks.

The overall atmosphere at night, crowd, vibe, and music really made for a fun and enjoyable experience at this Liberty Village rooftop patio bar and resturaunt. This is a great place to visit with friends for dinner before a night out on the town, or if you’re looking for a low-key spot in the core to chill out, relax, and sip on some unique cocktails and tasty eats.
