The Libertine is Dundas West's hidden speakeasy, the one you find under the blinking tarot reader sign and walk down into. Top 40, hip hop and R&B on Friday and Saturday, a 19+ crowd, plush booths and dim lights. Here's the honest rundown, plus the free guestlist so you skip the line.

The scene

What it's actually like

The Libertine is the kind of room you have to know about. From the street it's just a sign, but step down the stairs and you're in an old-school speakeasy: dim lights, plush seating, cosy booths and little tucked-away corners. It's small, around 90 people, so it gets close and loud fast, and after 10pm on a weekend it's packed.

This isn't a big warehouse club. It's a tight, social room built for cocktails, conversation and a dance floor that fills up once the DJ gets going. If your night is good drinks, current music and a spot that feels a little secret, The Libertine is the move.

Address & location

The Libertine's on Dundas West at 1307 Dundas St W (M6J 1X8), in Little Portugal, north of Dovercourt Road, between Rusholme Road and Lisgar Street. Easy to reach by transit or car, right in one of the city's busiest stretches.

The room

It runs about 1,800 square feet and holds around 90, so this is an intimate room, not a big floor. Plush seating, cosy booths and little hidden corners, with table service if you want to lock in a spot. You're close to the music and close to everyone, which is the whole point.

Who's there

A mixed crowd: hipsters, young professionals and students, all pulled in by the speakeasy look and the energy after dark. It leans into the Dundas West scene, so expect a stylish room that knows the spot is a little under the radar.

What's great

What to know going in

Move like you know

The music

Music carries the night here. The DJs run Top 40, hip hop and R&B on Friday and Saturday, a mix that keeps the small floor moving and pulls in a crowd that's there to dance. It's loud for the size of the room, which is exactly what makes it go off.

What to wear

The dress code is casual to smart casual, with limits. No sportswear, jerseys or athletic shoes. Come a little sharper to match the speakeasy look, and you'll have no trouble at the door. Clean and put-together is the move.

Cover & how to skip the line

Cover is usually $10, and it can change for special or themed nights. The guestlist is your clean entry: sign up before the 10pm cutoff, get there before 11pm, check in under your name, you're in. Early arrival pays off in the summer when Dundas West is busiest.

Age limit

Strict 19+. Ontario drinking age, so bring real ID. The door checks it, standard for Toronto bars and clubs, and it keeps the room grown.

Booths & bottle service

Want to do it right? Grab a booth. Bottle service is available on regular nights and special events, and the price depends on what you pour and how many people are in your group. You get a private, comfortable space away from the crush. Drinks run $15 for cocktails and shots, $14 for beer, with a $5 coat check. Drop your date and headcount in the form and we'll line up the right table for the night.
