Petty Cash is King West's no-cover bar move: hip-hop, R&B and Top 40 till 2am, a casual streetwear crowd, and a room that's busy every weekend. Here's the honest rundown, plus the free guestlist so you skip the long line.
The scenePetty Cash is the bar that doesn't take itself too seriously, and that's exactly why it works. It's not a swanky King West club, it's a bar and patio that's packed pretty much every night you walk by it. Three bars inside, a few different sections, no dedicated dance floor, but you can dance in any of it once the room gets going.
Think casual pre-drink or pre-party before you hit a main club, except plenty of people just post up here all night. The crowd's young, energetic and social, the music's a solid Top 40 and hip-hop mix, and on the right night with the right group it goes off. Come comfortable, come early, come to move.
Quick factsThere's no cover here, but the line gets long. After 11 you can wait 30 to 45 minutes, so the play is simple: get there before 11, ideally 10:30. Want a booth instead? Petty Cash is in the downtown core at 487 Adelaide St W (M5V 1T4), near Portland between King St W and Adelaide. The spot's ideal: you're steps from the rest of the King West clubs. You can't miss it either, there's a big neon sign and the line usually spills off the sidewalk onto the street.
Capacity runs around 300-400, so even when it's busy there's room to dance and you won't have a problem getting in if you're patient. It's one floor with different elevated areas inside: a main bar near the front entrance, a couple of well-stocked secondary bars on the side and in the back, and some booth areas to the right reserved for private events. In summer there's a decent open patio out front with its own bar and seating.
Mostly casual youth and young professionals, 19 to 25, dressed in streetwear. The crowd's energetic and sociable, and the room rarely has a dead night. Want real energy and current music without a dress-code hassle? Weekends here deliver.
Petty Cash keeps it on a good mix of current Top 40, hip-hop and R&B. The DJ usually reads the room well and spins music that matches the vibe of the venue. Peak hits between midnight and 1am, when the floor's full and everybody's singing along.
Petty Cash is a bar, so the dress code is casual. You can wear pretty much anything: streetwear works, there are no major restrictions, and most people aren't dressed up fancy. Come comfortable and you're fine.
There's no cover at Petty Cash, and you get re-entry as long as you grab a stamp from the door when you first walk in. The catch is the line: after 11pm it can run 30 to 45 minutes. Get there before 11, ideally 10:30, and you walk right in. The venue opens around 10pm and starts filling up between 10:30 and 11.
Strict 19+. Ontario drinking age, no exceptions on a normal club night, so bring real ID. Keeps the room on the same page.
