Overview:

A modern irish patio , located at Bay and College. The pub offers a large spacious traditional outdoor pub patio setting, and classic pub items as well as modern takes on american classics and pop culture dishes. The music at the venue is top 40/pop, and the ambiance is relaxed and casual – just what you would expect from an Irish Pub. This irish Pub has many great beers on top, but also serves a wide variety of hand crafted cocktails. The food overall is extremely high quality, you can tell by the dishes served that this venue pays attention to its food, as it’s something it takes pride in. Dishes are consistently cooked to perfection, and always tasty – this is one of the best spots to enjoy some drinks, or a pitcher of beer, with a nice pub style meal.

Our Review:

Just a few minutes up Yonge and Dundas, Pogue Mahone is located around Yonge and College. This patio is a modern, chic Irish Pub, with modern wooden decor, and glass panelling. Renovated from the previous old Irish Pub Style – Pogue Mahone operates as a very modern elegant pub and kitchen. In our opinion this may be one of the best pubs to come to Toronto for food. The ambiance is laid back and casual but modern enough, with hip decor to not be mistakable for the typical run of the mill irish pub in toronto. The decor and setting is up-to date and modern, providing a upscale Irish Pub bar look and feel. The demographic is mixed, catering to both young professionals, students as well as mature groups. This seems like a go to location if you’re around Yonge and Dundas.

The quality of dishes are high enough to be compared to restaurants that may specialize in just one type of cuisine. The ButterMilk Chicken sandwich is so crispy, yet juicy, served with the perfect bun and toppings, its on our list as one of favourite chicken sandwiches. Other pub style items like the chicken wings, or cauliflower bites were perfect and hit the mark bang on what we hoped for. Other pop dishes like their curries also were extremely tasty, robust and flavourful that we couldn’t put our spoons down. Every single dish we tasted here hit the mark, and to us that is beyond noteworthy, but puts Pogue Mahone a cut above your typical Toronto sit down dining experience.

The drinks at Pogue Mahone ranged from great IPAs, Lagers, Ales and Stouts on tap. They also diversify their menu by offering many handcrafted cocktails. We had a chance to sample their cocktails starting with the Aperol Spritz, that was refreshing and clean, mixed with aperol, prosecco and soda water. Our favourite cocktail by far was their White Summer Sangria, that was bright, delicious, sweet and fruity, the perfect sangria for summer. We sampled their Jelly King Bellwood, and Wicked Awesome IPA on tap, and they were two perfectly poured brews that were refreshing and perfect to be paired with their meal and snack offerings.

Our In-Depth Review:

The drinks at Pogue Mahone ranged from great IPAs, Lagers, Ales, and Stouts on tap. They also diversify their menu by offering many handcrafted cocktails. We had a chance to sample their cocktails starting with the Aperol Spritz, which was refreshing and clean, mixed with Aperol, prosecco, and soda water.

For food, we started by sampling the Korean BBQ wings which were hot and tasty, exactly what you would want from pub-style wings. Perfect to be paired with fries that they served, which were some of our favorite restaurant-style fries we’ve sampled in Toronto.

We sampled the ButterMilk Chicken sandwich is so crispy, yet juicy, served with the perfect bun and toppings, its on our list as one of favourite chicken sandwiches. The pickled toppings were bright and fresh helping to balance the deep-fried chicken.

Other pub-style items like the chicken wings, or cauliflower bites were perfect and hit the mark bang on what we hoped for.

Other pop dishes like their curries also were extremely tasty, robust, and flavourful that we couldn’t put our spoons down. Authentic flavourful, and rich, I will say this is not what we were expecting – but we more than enjoyed this dish.

Their Chocolate cake was sampled for dessert and it was perfectly sweet, overbearing – soft and delicious. This is the perfect dish for chocolate lovers, but we dare say even non-chocolate lovers may not be able to resist this.
