Bar Allegro is the Pompette crew's aperitivo bar on College, opened in early 2026 and already getting called one of the best bars in the city. The sceneThe partners designed the room themselves, no architects, and it shows in a good way. It feels like a bar you found on vacation in Spain or the south of France and didn't want to leave. Warm, casual, built for slow sips and shared plates, not a scene you have to perform for. You post up at the bar or grab a small table, order a draft cocktail and something off the snack list, and the night just stretches.
This is the bar-first follow-up to Bar Pompette from the same team, and it's looser than its sister spot on purpose. On the College strip it sits in a different lane from the club rooms nearby: Bar Raval down the street is the standing-room Spanish stunner, Allegro is the sit-down-and-actually-talk option. If your night is drinks as the main event instead of a warm-up, this is the room.
Quick factsWeekends run until 12:30am and the room fills with dates and groups doing the aperitivo-into-dinner move, plus industry people landing later (there's Guinness on draft basically for them). It's walk-in only, so prime time Friday and Saturday can mean a short wait for seats. Roll through at 5-7pm for happy-hour energy and easy seating, or after 10pm when the first wave clears. Weeknights are calmer and close at 11pm, so don't plan a late one midweek.

597 College St in Little Italy, on the main College West strip near Clinton St. It's the room that used to be Restaurant Pompette, a couple blocks of patios and bars in either direction. Look for the understated European bar frontage, not a big sign. Streetcar drops you right on College.
Mid-size European bar room, self-designed by the owners, warm and unfussy. Bar seats are the move because the show is the drink-making: draft cocktail taps, three martini builds, three negroni builds, all in-house. It's set up for conversation, not volume. No dance floor, no DJ booth, and that's the point.
Drinks nerds, first and third dates, small groups splitting plates, and a noticeable industry crowd on late weekends. Skews mid-20s to 40s. It's a grown room without being stiff. Nobody's filming TikToks in here.
The cocktail list is legit serious. Eighteen options with six on draft, and the Gorgonzola Martini became a small sensation because almost nobody in Toronto makes it. The wine program is deep. Around 100 bottles, mostly natural and biodynamic from France, Italy and Spain, with a rotating handful by the glass. The food punches above bar-snack level. Bone marrow bourguignon on potato buns from their own bakery, tuna carpaccio, mussels with 'nduja. Zero pretension. The owners built it to feel like theirs, and reviewers keep saying it's the least intimidating serious bar in the city.
Walk-in only. No reservations, so weekend prime time can mean hovering for a seat. It closes early by club standards. 11pm weeknights, 12:30am weekends. This is a start-your-night or whole-chill-night spot, not an afters. It's not cheap-cheap. Craft cocktail and natural wine pricing, so budget accordingly. No dancing. If you need a floor, this is your pre-game, not your destination.
Land at 5-6pm and take bar seats so you can watch the builds. Start with a draft spritz or the Passion Fruit-Calabrian Chili Spritz, then go Gorgonzola Martini or Pistachio Negroni when you're settled. Order the bone marrow bourguignon before the kitchen gets slammed. Let the bartenders pick your wine, the list is too deep to guess at. If you're heading to a College St club after, this is the smartest first stop on the strip.
No DJs, no live acts, just a room-appropriate playlist that stays under the conversation. The soundtrack is background by design. If you want a proper DJ night in the area, hit Revival or the Axis Club up the street and use Allegro as the warm-up.
Casual but put together. This is a nice European-style bar, not a bottle club, so there's no dress code to game. Jeans and a decent top or shirt fits right in. You'll feel out of place in gym clothes and equally out of place overdressed like you're heading to King West.
No cover, ever. It's a bar, not a ticketed room. The only entry cost is patience on a packed Friday since it's walk-in only. Go early or late on weekends and you'll slide straight into seats.
