The Maddy is the Annex student bar built into three old Victorian mansions: Top 40 upstairs, a live piano bar in the middle, an EDM basement, and a U of T crowd that fills all four floors on Friday and Saturday. Here's the honest rundown, plus the free guestlist so you skip the line.
The sceneThe Maddy, short for the Madison House, is a maze. Four floors, a basement, and a multi-story patio spread across three connected Victorian houses, with bars and seating everywhere you turn. It's a real university bar, so the energy is loud, friendly, and a little rowdy in the best way. Round up your people, grab a picnic table, and post up.
This isn't a polished bottle-service club. It's a student spot where the drinks are cheap, the food is half price after 11, and the crowd is mostly U of T. If your night is about a big group, Top 40, a singalong at the piano bar, and meeting new people, The Maddy delivers.

The Maddy is on Madison Avenue, hence the name, at 14 Madison Ave (M5R 2S1), in the Annex right by Spadina Road and Bloor Street West. It's walking distance from Spadina Station on the TTC's Line 1 and steps from U of T's St. George campus. You'll spot it fast: a line out front and big, well-lit Victorian houses on the street.
This place is huge, around 500-600+ capacity across four floors plus a basement and a multi-story patio. The basement holds a big dancefloor and bar in one section with EDM and Top 40, and the famous piano bar in another. The main floor has several bars and picnic-table seating, plus the patio with its own bar and a sunroom with similar seating. There's a bathroom on almost every floor.
Mostly students, roughly 19 to 21, dressed casual. It's one of the main spots U of T students hang at, so expect a friendly, diverse mix of students and bar-goers. If you want real energy and a packed room on a budget, weekends here deliver.
The Maddy runs three different sounds across the house. The main floors spin Top 40 and hip-hop, the piano bar plays classic rock hits sung live by a performer, and the basement usually plays EDM, hip-hop and house. The music itself is pretty average, but if the piano bar's your thing, you'll love it, and the variety means there's a room for whatever mood you're in.
The dress code is very casual. As long as you're dressed nicely you shouldn't have any trouble at the door, and streetwear is fine. The one thing to skip is track pants or sweats, that's too casual. Bags aren't allowed, but women can bring a purse.
Cover is typically $5 for everyone, sometimes free if you come very early, and it runs every day except Thursdays. The guestlist is your move for a clean entry, but cover still applies after 11pm regardless of the list, so beat the clock. Aim to arrive by 10:50pm at the latest, since a line can form as early as 10:40. At the door, tell them what guestlist you're under, check in, get stamped, you're in.
Strict 19+ on a normal club night, no exceptions, so bring real ID.
Prices stay student-friendly: cocktails run $8-9, pints $7-9, a pitcher around $20, and shots about $9. There's no coat check, but with this much seating you can usually just leave your jacket at your table. Want a guaranteed spot with your own service? Drop your date and headcount in the form and we'll line up a table and bottles for the night.
