THE MADDY OVERVIEW

The Madison House, commonly referred to as “The Maddy” is a large multifloor university bar that resides within three of Toronto’s historic Victorian Era mansions. The Maddy is known as one of the primary spots that University of Toronto students hang out at.airs.

THE MADDY CLUB REVIEW

The Maddy is an interesting venue because it has a lot to offer with it’s unique construction and crowd. While this bar isn’t for everyone, we’ve been to this venue many times over the years and can definitely see the appeal of it. The Madison House has everything from a live piano bar downstairs, to a massive patio out back, and even a basement area with a dancefloor that plays Top 40 and EDM. Music is pretty average, but if you are particularly fond of the songs they play at the piano bar you’ll love it. Beyond that the Maddy is a maze with a ton of floors, bars, and seating everywhere you go. If you’re a student going to the University of Toronto then it’s very likely you’ll be going to the Maddy at least once while you’re enrolled, if not become a regular. We would say that the Maddy really provides a great bar vibe where you can round up a group of friends, big or small and enjoy reasonably priced drinks, above-average bar food, and meet some new friends. Since this bar really tries to attract anyone and everyone, you’ll often times see a diverse mix of students and bar-goers at this venue. Overall, we think if you’re still in university or college, this is a great place to hit with friends. Also, there is a half-price special on food after 11:00 pm on Fridays and Saturdays which makes for cheap but filling meals.

∙ Sometimes it gets too packed

INSIDER TIPS

∙ Half priced food after 11:00PM on Fridays and Saturdays

THE MADDY GENERAL INFORMATION

The Madison house is a pretty large venue with a capacity of around 500-600+ people and features a total of 4 floors including the basement level, and a multi-story patio. In the basement, there is a large dancefloor and bar in one section with EDM and Top 40, and in another section of the basement is the famous Piano Bar. On the main floor there are several bars, and plenty of seating in the form of picnic tables, as well as the main patio area which has it’s own bar. Additionally, there is a sunroom area with similar seating and the interior follows suit. Drinks range from $8-9+ for cocktails, $7-9 for a pint, about $20+ for a pitcher, and $9+ for liquor shots. The Maddy does not offer coat check, but there is usually tons of spots to leave your jacket if you’re sitting down at one of the seated areas. There are bathrooms on almost every floor, one near the piano bar, one near the exit to the patio, and one on the very top floor.

THE MADDY LOCATION

The Maddy is located on Madison Avenue, hence the name and is very close to Spadina Road and Bloor Street West. The Maddy is within walking distance of Spadina Station on the TTC’s Line 1 subway line. It’s quite easy to spot once you get onto Madison Avenue because you’ll likely see a line out front and the large, well lit Victorian houses on the street. The Maddy is also very close to the University of Toronto’s St. George Campus.

THE MADDY AGE LIMIT

You must be 19+ to enter the Madison House on a normal club night, no exceptions are made.

THE MADDY DRESS CODE

The dress code is very casual, and as long as you are dressed nicely, there shouldn’t be any problems getting in. The only thing to avoid is wearing track pants or sweats, that’s too casual. Bags are not allowed, however, women are allowed to bring in purses.

THE MUSIC AT THE MADDY

The Maddison offers 3 different genres of music and vibes with the main areas and floors spinning Top 40 / Hip-Hop, the Piano bar which plays classic rock hits played and sung live by a performer, and the basement which usually plays EDM, Hip-Hop, and House music.

THE MADISON HOUSE COVER CHARGE

Cover charge for the Maddy is typically $5 for everyone, but is sometimes free if you come very early.
