Paradise Grapevine is the wine bar and bottle shop on Bloor West that everyone tells you about: cozy inside, a plant-filled patio open all year, $10 wines and $7 drafts, and a daily happy hour. Here's the honest rundown before you head over.

The scene

What it's actually like

Paradise Grapevine opened in January 2019 and became a Toronto favourite fast. It was one of the first independent bottle shops in Ontario, opening just a day after the new take-out alcohol laws came in, and that origin story still shapes it: this is a wine, beer and cider spot first, with a deep, well-chosen list of bottles from around the world. The service is friendly and the room runs warm and chill, not loud or showy.

The patio is the star. It's open all year, filled with plants, and gives you a real escape from the city even though you're right on Bloor. In summer you sit under a 37-year-old grapevine; in winter the patio gets enclosed and heated so it works in the cold too. Inside is cozy and inviting. Whether you want a quiet glass or a longer night with friends, it fits.

Address & location

Paradise Grapevine is on Bloor West at 841 Bloor St W (M6G 1M3), just south of College and west of Shaw. Easy to find and easy to reach, central enough to be an easy stop on basically any route.

The room

It's about 1,500 square feet, holding roughly 50 people, with a lush patio open all year. Inside is cozy and inviting; the patio is the draw, packed with plants and a real break from the city. The name honours the Menalon Restaurant that used to occupy the space, and that history still colours the room.

Who's there

People who actually like wine and beer. It's loved across Toronto for its selection and its warm, unpretentious feel. Friendly, knowledgeable staff, a calm crowd, and a room that works just as well for a quick glass as a longer night with friends.

What's great

What to know going in

Move like you know

The drinks

This is a wine bar and a bottle shop, so the list runs deep across wine, beer and cider. Beer generally lands between $5.50 and $10, and the happy-hour $10 wines and $7 drafts are the value play. You can also buy any retail bottle and drink it in-house for a $20 corkage fee, which is a nice touch if you spot something on the shelf you want to open right then.

The music

Expect a mix of Top 40 in the background. It keeps the room lively but relaxed, more soundtrack than centerpiece. This is a wine bar, so the music sets the mood rather than running the night.

What to wear

Dress code is casual, so come comfortable. That laid-back approach fits the whole vibe of the place, no need to dress up for a glass on the patio.

Age limit

It's 19 and over. Ontario drinking age, so bring ID.

Cover, guestlist & bottle service

There's no cover and no guestlist, it's first-come, first-served, so get there early during busy stretches. There's no booth or bottle service either; the focus is the wine, beer and cider selection in a relaxed, unpretentious setting. Walk in, grab a seat, and you're set.
