The sceneThink neighbourhood bar run by people who grew up on Bauhaus and D&D: the room calls itself a bar and apothecary, all curiosities and dark decor, casual enough for a coffee, licensed enough for a proper night. Every day opens with happy hour from 6 to 8pm with booze and board games, and the weekly calendar carries the room: life drawing Mondays, poetry and trivia Tuesdays, open mics and DJ sets Wednesdays, industry night Thursdays. Weekends the volume comes up and the events take over, and there's a basement level that events like Das Mortuary turn into a legit electro dungeon.
What it's known for is being the west end's home base for the goth and alternative scene. Batcave club nights, Osaze's dark alt and retro goth parties, industrial and EBM nights, drag shows, burlesque and standup all rotate through. Nothing else in the neighbourhood does this; your alternatives are the Dance Cave's alt throwbacks in the Annex or the Comrade's post-punk playlists in Riverside, and neither has The Wych's clubhouse feel. 1150 Davenport Rd, right at Davenport and Ossington where Wychwood meets Dovercourt Village. It's north of the usual bar strips, a residential stretch, so it's a destination rather than a stumble-upon: watch for the dark storefront on Davenport. The Ossington 63 bus runs right to it, or it's a walk up from Ossington station territory.
A cozy cafe-bar layout on the main floor, decorated in full dark-apothecary style with curiosities on the shelves and event posters where sports screens would be anywhere else. It's board-game-night comfortable rather than club-scaled. The wildcard is the basement: an intimate lower room that event nights transform, most famously into Das Mortuary's electro dungeon for industrial, EBM and 80s goth.
The goth, alt and geek communities in all their overlap: black-clad regulars, drag fans, poets, kink-community socials, board gamers and neighbourhood folks who wandered in for a cocktail and stayed. Age range runs wider than a club, mid-20s through 40s-plus, and it's a pointedly inclusive, queer-friendly room where new faces get absorbed fast.
The programming is relentless. Something on every single night, from life drawing to goth club nights to drag, so it's never just a bar with a playlist. It's the scene's living room. Toronto's goth calendar routinely runs through here, and the community treats it as home turf. Happy hour with board games every day 6-8pm is one of the friendliest standing offers in the west end. The bar takes itself seriously too, with proper cocktails (they once built a glowing UV cocktail for fun), craft beer and coffee alongside.
It's small, and big event nights can pack out fast, so tickets ahead beat the door. It's not a dance club by default. Some nights are poetry, comedy or drawing; check the calendar so you land on the night you actually want. Weeknights close at 11pm, so late sessions are Friday-Saturday only. The location is off the main strips, so plan the trip rather than expecting to bar-hop from it.

If Das Mortuary or another basement night is running, get downstairs early because capacity down there is tight. And go alone without fear; this is the rare bar where solo regulars are the norm.
Depends entirely on the night. Club nights run goth, post-punk, dark alt, electro, industrial, EBM and 80s retro goth, with events like Batcave and Osaze bringing dedicated DJs and Das Mortuary running harder industrial sounds in the basement. Between those you'll get open-mic Wednesdays with DJ sets, live PA, burlesque soundtracks and dark-leaning playlists over the bar. If your genre is anything with eyeliner on it, some night this week has you covered.
All black is never wrong here, and event nights reward effort: goth fits, drag looks, leather and lace all belong. That said, there's no door policy; on a random Tuesday it's a neighbourhood bar and jeans are fine. Rule of thumb: dress for the event you picked, and when in doubt, darker.
